Discord roleplay proxy bot: post as your characters with Personas

Personas brings roleplay characters to your server without extra bots. Members create personas with a name, avatar, bio, pronouns and a proxy tag like [text]. Any message that uses the tag is re-posted under the character’s name and avatar, and the original disappears. A record of every proxied message keeps the real author, so members can edit their posts and staff stay in control.

Two members roleplaying as their personas

What you get

Characters with a profile

Name, avatar, short bio, pronouns and a card colour. /persona show posts a profile card, and each member can have several personas.

Proxy tags you choose

Write a tag around the word “text”: [text], Aria: text, text -a. Up to 5 tags per persona, and a message with the tag is posted as that character.

Autoproxy and latch

Front mode posts every message as one persona; latch mode keeps the last persona you used. Per server or per channel, and starting with \ posts as yourself.

Who really wrote it

/persona whois or the “Persona message” menu shows the real author, to everyone or to staff only. Logs records deletions with the real member.

Edit and delete your posts

From the “Persona message” menu the author can edit a proxied post or delete it, and staff can delete any of them. Replies, attachments and stickers carry over.

Safe by design

Proxied messages never ping @everyone, @here or roles, keep your bad-word filter and phishing checks, and have a per-member rate limit. Pick the channels where it works.

How it works

  1. Turn on Personas

Open https://console.botgg.app, choose your server and switch on Personas in the Community section. The /persona commands and the “Persona message” menu then appear in your server.

  2. Choose where it works

Allow all channels or only your roleplay categories, ignore others, set NSFW rules, required roles, who can see the real author and the rate limit.

  3. Members create their personas

With /persona create: a name, a tag such as [text], and optionally an avatar link, bio, pronouns and colour. /persona list shows them all.

  4. Roleplay away

Members type [Hello there!] and the bot posts “Hello there!” as their character through a channel webhook. Autoproxy makes the tag optional.

Roleplay that stays accountable

Proxy bots are great for roleplay but can hide who is behind a message. Personas keeps a map of every proxied message to its real member for 180 days, so whois, moderation and Logging always point to the right person. Staff can disable or remove any persona from the console, with a reason.

A persona can have up to 5 tags, and each member can create up to 5 personas on the Free plan or 50 on Pro (you can set a lower cap). The bot needs the Manage Webhooks and Manage Messages permissions in your roleplay channels; Server Doctor tells you if one is missing.

  • /persona create, /persona edit, /persona delete: manage your characters
  • /persona list and /persona show: your personas and a profile card
  • /persona autoproxy: post as a persona without typing its tag
  • /persona whois and the “Persona message” menu: real author, edit and delete

Frequently asked questions

What is a proxy bot on Discord?

A bot that re-posts your message under another name and avatar, so you can talk as a character in roleplay. Tupperbox and PluralKit are well-known examples. BotGG Personas does the same inside the bot you already use, managed in the console.

How do proxy tags work?

You choose a pattern around the word “text”, for example [text] or Aria: text. When your message matches it, the bot posts the inner text as that persona and deletes your original. A message starting with \ is never autoproxied.

Can moderators see who wrote a persona message?

Yes. /persona whois or the “Persona message” menu shows the real member; you choose whether everyone or only staff can see it. Deleted persona messages are logged with the real member, too.

Can I edit a message I posted as a persona?

Yes. Open the message menu, choose “Persona message” and press Edit to change the text, or Delete to remove it. Staff can delete any persona message.

How many personas can I have?

Up to 5 per member on Free servers and 50 on Pro servers, unless the server sets a lower limit. See pricing for every plan.
