BotGG Shield: an opt-in trust network that flags known raiders and scammers when they join

BotGG Shield lets servers that use BotGG warn each other about bad actors. Servers that opt in share an anonymous signal when they ban someone for a raid, spam, a scam, a nuke attempt or ban evasion. Servers that opt in to use signals see a score when that account joins them, with only counts: how many servers, which category, when. Never which server, never the reason, never the messages. Shield is free on every plan.

What you get

Two separate opt-ins

Contribute signals and Use signals are independent switches, and both are off until you turn them on. Share without screening, screen without sharing, or both.

Only counts are shared

Other servers see “Raid · 2 servers, first seen in March”. They never see which server, the ban reason, any message or the moderator who banned.

Five serious categories

Raid, spam, scam or phishing, nuke attempt and ban evasion. Ordinary rule breaking is never shared, and you choose which categories your server contributes.

Action per risk band

Low, medium and high bands, each with its own action: log only, alert staff, quarantine role, verification review, kick, or ban with an explicit confirmation.

Hard to abuse

New and small servers carry little or no weight, servers of one owner count once, signals per server are rate-limited, and BotGG staff can block a server that misuses Shield.

A review page for users

Anyone can sign in with Discord on the Shield page, see what Shield holds about their account (counts only) and ask BotGG for a review.

How it works

  1. Choose what you join

Open https://console.botgg.app, choose your server, open BotGG Shield in the Moderation section and switch on Contribute signals, Use signals, or both. Each switch explains exactly what is shared first.

  2. Bans become signals

With Contribute on, bans for a raid, spam, a scam, a nuke attempt or ban evasion become anonymous signals. Use shield_category on /ban to pick one or keep a ban out of Shield.

  3. Joins are screened

With Use on, every member who joins is checked against other servers’ signals. A score above your bands triggers the action you set, and staff get an alert with Allow, Kick, Ban and Dismiss buttons.

  4. You keep the last word

Allow a member from the alert, the console or /shield allow and they are never flagged on your server again. Every flagged join is listed in the console.

Privacy first: what Shield shares and what it never does

A signal is a user ID, a category and when it was first and last seen. The ban reason is read once to choose the category and then thrown away; message content and the moderator are never stored. Towards other servers, Shield only ever shows totals per category, so nobody can find out where an account was banned or why.

Signals don’t live forever. They expire 180 days after they were last confirmed, disappear immediately when the member is unbanned, and are removed within an hour when a server turns Contribute off. A member who believes they were flagged unfairly can open the Shield page at https://console.botgg.app/shield, see their own counts and expiry, and request a review.

Safe by default

Out of the box, the bands only log or alert; kicks and bans happen only if you choose them, and a ban action needs an extra confirmation in the settings. Automatic kicks and bans are capped per hour, the server owner is never touched, and you can turn kicks and bans of older accounts into alerts. An optional neutral DM tells the member what happened without naming other servers, with a link to your ban appeals when that feature is on.

Frequently asked questions

Is BotGG Shield a global ban list?

No. Nobody is banned everywhere automatically. Each server decides whether to share signals, whether to use them, and what happens at each risk level. By default a flagged join is only logged or reported to staff.

What exactly do other servers see about a member?

Only aggregates: per category, how many servers reported the account and when it was first and last seen, plus the resulting score. Never the names of those servers, the ban reasons, messages or moderators.

Is my server’s data shared if I just want protection?

No. Use signals and Contribute signals are separate. With only Use on, your server screens joins but shares nothing about its own bans.

What if someone was flagged unfairly?

On your server, staff can allow them in one click and they are never flagged there again. Across all servers, the person can sign in on the Shield page, see what is held about their account and ask BotGG for a review. An unban also deletes that server’s signals at once.

Does BotGG Shield cost anything?

No. Shield is a safety feature and is free on every plan, including Free.

Can a server flood Shield with fake reports?

Shield is built against that: new and small servers carry little or no weight, servers with the same owner count as one, each server can add only a limited number of signals per hour and per day, and BotGG staff can block a server and delete its signals.
