Discord Pomodoro bot: study rooms with a shared focus timer

Study Rooms turns any voice channel into a study room. Run /focus start and BotGG posts a live Pomodoro panel in the channel’s chat: focus, break, long break, round by round. Focus minutes count only while a member is in the room, and they add up to daily and weekly stats, streaks, a weekly goal and a leaderboard.

What you get

Shared Pomodoro timer

25 minutes of focus, 5 minutes of break and a 15-minute long break every 4 rounds by default. Change the defaults, or let members pick their own minutes.

Counted in the room only

Focus time is counted per member while they are in the voice channel during a focus phase. Leave the room and the clock stops for you.

Stats and streaks

/focus stats shows today, this week, the last 7 days, all time and your streak. A day counts for the streak once you reach the minutes you set.

Weekly goals

Set a server default or let members choose their own with /focus goal. Reaching it can pay bonus coins or XP and post a congratulation.

Coins and XP rewards

Pay Bank coins or Levels XP per hour of focus, with a daily cap and a minimum session length so nobody farms them.

Leaderboard

/focus leaderboard ranks who focused the most this week, in the last 30 days or of all time, with pages for bigger servers.

How it works

  1. Enable Study Rooms

Open https://console.botgg.app, choose your server and switch on Study Rooms in the Voice section. Pick the study channels, or allow any voice channel.

  2. Set the timer and rewards

Choose the default focus, break and long-break minutes and the number of rounds. Add coins or XP per hour, a weekly goal and a streak threshold.

  3. Start a session

Join a voice or stage channel and run /focus start. The panel appears in the channel’s chat with Pause, Skip, Stop and My stats buttons.

  4. Study together

Everyone in the room collects focus minutes. At the end the panel shows a summary with the top participants, their minutes and their rewards.

A study room that keeps everyone honest

The panel shows the phase, the round and when it ends as a Discord timestamp, so it counts down in every member’s own time zone without the bot editing the message every second. It is only updated when something changes: a new phase, a pause, a skip, or someone joining or leaving. Phase changes are announced in a separate message and can ping the people in the room.

Rooms can require a camera (or a camera or screen share) during focus. Members without one get a grace period and a warning, and their minutes don’t count until it is on; you can also have them moved out of the room. If everybody leaves, the session ends by itself after a few minutes.

Each server can run 2 sessions at once on the Free plan and 20 on Pro, one per voice channel.

  • /focus start [work] [break] [rounds] [long_break]: start a session in your voice channel
  • /focus stop: stop the session of your voice channel
  • /focus stats [member]: focus time, streak and weekly goal
  • /focus leaderboard [period]: who focused the most
  • /focus goal [hours]: set your weekly goal (0 = no goal)

Study stats in the console

The console Overview shows focus time, sessions and active members for 7, 30 or 90 days, a daily chart with a data-table view and the sessions running right now. The Leaderboard tab ranks members by period, and Settings shows a live preview of the Discord panel and the session timeline before you save.

Restarts don’t break a session: the timer is calculated from its start time, so after a restart the bot picks it up where it was. Only members who are actually in the room are counted, and rewards are paid exactly once when a session ends.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a Pomodoro study room on Discord?

Enable Study Rooms in the BotGG console, choose which voice channels are study rooms, then join one and run /focus start. The bot posts a shared timer in the channel’s chat and counts focus time for everyone in the room.

Does focus time count if I leave the voice channel?

No. Minutes are only counted while you are in the room during a focus phase. Breaks don’t count, and time spent away from the channel doesn’t either.

Can members choose their own timer?

Yes, if you allow custom timers. Then /focus start takes the focus minutes, break minutes, number of rounds and long-break minutes. Otherwise every session uses the server defaults.

What do members get for studying?

You choose: Bank coins and/or Levels XP per hour of focus, with a daily cap and a minimum session length, plus an optional bonus for reaching the weekly goal. Coins need the Bank to be on and XP needs Levels.

How many study sessions can run at once?

One session per voice channel, and up to 2 running sessions per server on the Free plan or 20 on Pro. See pricing.
